I had seen Kill Bill, Vol. 1 before, and just watched it again before I stuck in the just-out Kill Bill, Vol. 2. While I'm not a Quentin Tarantino fan by any means, I did quite enjoy these movies. I'm not exactly sure why.
In Kill Bill, Vol. 1, there was a large amount of spewing blood a'la anime or the BBC. While gratuitous isn't quite the right word, the sheer amount of blood and the very non-realistic way of spraying was done in an artistic form to mimic the stylings of anime in the movie that has strong ties to Asian cultures, particularly martial arts and samurai. In Vol. 2, the only blood was like a normal movie.
The styles of the director changed slightly with the victim of the story. The Asian girl got killed in Japanese anime style and her backstory was told in actual anime animation. In Vol. 2 the Texan was killed by a snakebite and the one-eyed girl was killed(?) by having her other eye plucked out and left thrashing around with the snake. [The story does not actually offer that she died, so in grand movie style, leaves it open to interpretation and sequel.]
In the first few minutes we finally find out The Bride's name, which was beeped out every time in the first movie, Beatrix Kiddo. Her daughter that we find out at the end of the first movie is still alive [Like we didn't know.] was named B.B. In the credits it was listed with periods, so it is an abbreviation, probably for Beatrix-Bill?
The whole movie (Vol. 1 and 2 combined) was an excellent artistic endeavor. A great story and an extremely good job at directing. Quentin has mentioned a third installment in 15 years when the daughter from Vol. 1 is old enough to revenge her mothers death.
