Coming out of a hard, gruelling contract (i.e. Slavery) with Warner Brothers, Prince celebrates his freedom and love for life. Warner Brothers wouldn't, couldn't, and I'm sorry, but shouldn't, keep up with Prince's fast coming music. At the time of the split in 1996 he had something like 400 songs ready for publish, and Warner just wouldn't flood the market release a 30 CD set. I doubt that Prince actually wanted to release all of them at once, but the relationship died fast and at one time he performed with the word "SLAVE" scrawled on his face. You knew I'd have to mention that, didn't you?
Rave is one of the first albums out after he left Warner Bros and went independant. During his independance he balked the entire industry offering his songs via paid private download on the internet. All the while the music industry (read this: RIAA) was sueing people sharing mp3s. Don't get me started on that one.
Enjoy the music. That's Prince's message.
